Sand Probe
Sand probes are used when it’s necessary to detect the erosion or the corrosion phenomena. Whenever a corrosive environment contains solid particles that might impinge onto the metal surface, the protective corrosion product layers or oxides can be thinned or removed increasing greatly the corrosion rate.
The sensing element of the probe is a thin walled tube, closed at one end and welded to the probe body at the other end connected to a pressure sensing device.
Normally the best location for these kind of probes is into the highest speed streams or in the turbulence zones.
